I purchased a term life insurance from Edelweiss ONLINE, along with 3 riders for a sum of Rs.25590/- (ref 005138353E ) Edelweiss acknowledged the payment on monday 29D ec on email, however no one contacted me for Medical Examination. I waited for 3 days. When I called repeatedly, a gentleman called me but with incorrect information about my cover details on thu 01Jan15. Next another person has contacted me on 02Jan15 Friday, but they are insisting on asking for personal information like ‘Date of Birth’ on the phone I am not willing to share any personal information over then phone. I have asked them to either process the proposal based on scanned copies or have the original documents verified at my residence they have not agreed to this. They have refunded the money but are refusing to take ANY ALTERNATE VERIFICATION. AS PER MR GOVILA ANY CORRESPONDENCE ON PHONE WITH EDELWEISS TOKIO MUST BEGIN WITH SPEAKING OUT YOUR DATE OF BIRTH AND THERE IS NO ALTERNATE / OPTION.

As a consequence either Customers have to compromise with their personal information over the phone like DATE OF BIRTH, or they are being deprived of the online purchase of term life by Edelweiss Tokio Life Insurance. since Date of Birth is a key Personal information, disclosing this on a phone line bears the risk of revealing this personal information to any miscreant who can thereafter pose as the customer and cause financial loss and distress across all financial products. is this not in violation of RBI/IRDA guidelines to Insurance companies, to take steps to Protect Customer Information

Edelweiss Tokio Life Insurance company must be asked to accept alternate forms of verification such as : a. scanned copy of date of birth certificate b. value of transaction c. details of transaction d. date and time of transaction e. credit card bank name used to pay for transaction etc. etc. for customers who want to protect their personal information such as Date of Birth / Mother’s Maiden name etc. AND ALLOW ME TO PURCHASE THE ONLINE TERM INSURANCE, WITHOUT FORCING ME TO SPEAK OUT MY DATE OF BIRTH FOR VERIFICATION EACH TIME ON PHONE CALL.
