Dear Mr. Chauhan and Ors,

With Due Respect, This is a mail regarding an accident held in the institute laboratory in Amity institute of biotechnology .There is a fermenter that Blasted which contains boiling water and was on a very high pressure..(Snapshots attached)

My concerns. My wife (Shruti) works in your privileged institute in the same lab where the accident happened, is there any security or safety measures taken afterwards. The lab has 3 gas cylinders still kept just next to where she sits (Snapshots attached).

My Question is:-
1.can’t this accident be prevented?
2.Are these equipment meets the safety norms?
3.Is anyone checking the Instruments on the Regular basis?
All the equipment should have a safety manual ! shouldn’t they?

The equipment’s that failed doesn’t have a pressure valve, can we believe this? an equipment that reaches a high pressure doesn’t have a pressure valve which cant control the pressure for the fermenter and may be that’s the reason that fermenter blasted that day .

But not only this ,all the equipments are so low quality that i hear one or other day, that this happened in lab today and so and so on.

Moreover, the PI of the project ie Dr. Debarati Paul ,AIB didn’t bothered to ask my wife is she fine or not and continuously tried to emphasis that i have lost alot its only my loss not anyone else and After the concern raised to HR Dept. We got the answer “Go to your PI she will answer you we can’t do any thing since this project you got from your PI and Afterwards PI has given the orders to stop the salary” and,before this the PI of the project continuously forced her to join PhD as she is working as J.R.F.

My request

Please Intervene into the matter and quality check all the instruments so this not happened again. She was sitting just few inches away ,if she was burned who would be responsible, the PI who didn’t asked once ,if she was fine in return, is this humanity is showed in your huge privileged institute.

Even on suggestion by Director, to change the seat ,she was told that they tell you to do alot,the same could not be implemented, the computer and computer table cant be move out of lab ,you take a another table and sit somewhere else. This is not the proper way to manage disasters.

Respected, she is working there from more than a year and can expect some good research, quitting in between is not good option for her as her all hard work will get no where.i request you to take measures so she or every one around can work safely and keep a check on all instruments are they worth to the cost paid to vendor,or what it is on paper(It doesn’t Reconcile),because good work should be of good quality. Else i would be left no where but to complain to other govt. departments because i think safety should not be compromised.

And she should be allowed to work as JRF as working on this position is as respectable as PhD..one selfishness to increase her points on

Faculty review system should not be the reason to compel someone to join PhD. Please intervene into the matter , waiting for a positive revert.
