Dear sir/madam, I have had Airtel Phone Number 9958587595 since a few years now. I have it registered with all my Banks for online Banking purpose. Please note that it’s balance was valid until March 2014, and had been originally bought under “Life-time” plan. Since July 17 2013, I was getting the message “SIM Card registration failed”. On messaging airtelpresence@in.airtel.com, I got to know my number has been disconnected. Please note that I was not given any warning before discontinuation and moreover TRAI guidelines mandate a 15-day Grace Period for retaining the number. I had replied to airtelpresence, but received a phone call on July 26, 2013 saying that the number has been recycled and they cannot do anything. This clearly proves that they do not have any provision for the Grace Period as mandated by TRAI guidelines. I also made use of their online presence on Facebook, and was assured that they were working on it, but haven’t heard anything from them. I also logged a formal complaint on www.akosha.com (Complaint#278233) but they just replied and took no satisfactory action whatsoever! Moreover, in a written mail Airtel has admitted that it can disconnect the service after 30-days of non-usage. This is blatantly against the 90-day norm set by TRAI. The big brands like Airtel seem to be abusing ruthlessly their privileged position to make fool of the customers and play as they wish. Moreover, this is a clear example of flouting the guidelines set by the regulatory authority (TRAI) itself! I cannot understand at all how can a National Brand like Airtel go to such a level. I pray to you therefore, to impose a very strict penalty on Airtel in this case of misdemeanour, flouting TRAI’s norms and abusing their power, creating immense mental and physical problem for a customer. Also, Airtel should be asked to restart the services at the earliest to the aforesaid number. Thanks, Ankit Sukhija
