I went to watch movie at Cinepolis, Vatrapur with my family. In interval I bought one Fanta 450 ml and I medium Popcorn. I have visited this place many times and what I found this time strange was that they were charging VAT on these items. I asked the person there and he was clueless about it. Sir is it legal to charge VAT on item on which u are not doing any value addition. The VAT charge was also 15%. In India we don’t complain about all these things but I found this to be very strange and found out this as just a way to increase profits. No where in India I have seen any theater charging VAT on cold drinks and popcorn.

Its just disturbing, without any mandate in middle of year you start charging VAT without any justification whether it was mandated from Gujarat Government. If it was so others would also be charging the VAT but no one else is charging VAT.

I want the concerned vendor to show the order of Government that has asked them to levy this surcharge in middle of financial year so that public is not fooled.
