complaint against Home Town

Dear Consumer Forum,

We have a complaint against the pathetic service of HomeTown. We want to cancel our order with them and get our money back. We are not demanding any additional compensation for the lost time and mental turmoil that they have caused us and are only asking us for the money that we paid to them. Please help. Details are in the mail below which we sent to them.

Dear Mr.Nigam,

This is a very frustrated and disappointed customer writing to you about the pathetic service of Home Town. As we had to get our home renovated we came to Home Town thinking this would be one stop solution for us. I walked into Home Town and met Ms. Gunjan (Interior Design) on 15th December 2009 who said that she will come back to our house to take measurements and give design. Till 26th December 2009 no one called me or contacted me to follow up on the case. Hence frustrated I went back to Home Town only to wait for 2 hours to meet one Mr. Pratap who promised to come and do the needful. Mr. Pratap came on 27th December 2009 and took measurements and collected Rs.2500/- and also asked us to pay Rs.7500/- if we want them to create designs for the apartment which we cordially agreed and was paid on 30th December 2009. Again, there was no communication from Mr. Pratap or any one from Home Town. When I called Mr. Pratap he said he is busy with some other project and said someone will contact me and Anupama then became our point of contact. We were skeptical as to how one could design our house without talking to us or seeing our house. Anyways, It took Anupama 16 days to contact us and send us a design. We did not like the design and asked her to come and see the house and talk to us. We had to repeatedly keep calling Anupama and even when we came to visit her at HomeTown, we had to wait for 4-5 hours to talk to her. And we had to carry our little son along and wait there too. On the 6th of Feb we sent out a email complaining about the lack of response and errors in estimation made by the Home Town team which was our first written complaint. Anupama called and said that she will set matters right which never happened. Finally after repeated calling to Anupama, on the 23rd of Jan, we were asked to meet Rajini from kitchen department and we paid Rs.30,000/- as advance for the kitchen and were told that the kitchen will be delivered in 30 days latest by 23rd Feb. all along we have clearly mentioned to Anupama that we have to vacate our rent house by end of Feb. There were multiple people who came again to our house and kept giving differing opinions on the chimney placement. One said we could have it in the center, one said we could have it on the right side, one said we could use our old granite, one said we couldn’t use the old granite etc.. All this made us lose complete faith in Home Town and the technical expertise of the people there. When people came back to us only with problems and kitchen was not ready even by the end of Feb, we asked clearly for our money back. However, Desmond and Rajini came once again; we told them that we want to cancel the order. They went back saying that they will look in to it and we clearly told them that we will not pay any money till the completion of the work to our satisfaction.

They went back and that is when you Mr.Nigam called us and told us that you would take care of the project till completion. We were again asked us to pay 34811/- to which we were very reluctant. However on Mr.Nigam’s assurance we paid them another 34,811/- on the 10th of March. Today is the 10th of April, one more month from that day and we still do not have our kitchen ready, we need to vacate our rented house and people from hometown still are not sure of getting us the same kitchen we ordered for and want to make changes again in colors, give 2 different colours and still need another 30 days for completion.

This is the most pathetic service I have ever experienced and a copy of this letter has been sent to the consumer forum too. Delivery of the entire renovation had to be complete by the 27th of March and we are still waiting only for the kitchen as of the 10th April.

It is our request to return our money a total of Rs.74811/- back immediately and we do not want to continue with HomeTown anymore.

Hi Anupama,

I have recieved the estimation and see a lot of invalid costs added to it in comparison to the plan given like in the kitchen civil work there was no requirement of floor tiles laying which is added in the estimate, we asked to reuse the granite slab but i see that there is a granite removing charges and also installing of a 20 mm granite which is very opposite of wat the plan is. WE ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THE WAY THE WHOLE THING IS DONE and the charges look very unbelievable. Also, there is COMPLETE miscommunication between all different departments which is making our life very difficult as we have to explain the same old things again and again. At the end of it we have to settle to what you have said. There is no satisfaction in the plan, costs or the service we are offered. I would like you to put me on to your manager as informed before but havent got any response on that. Hope all the queries will be answered asap.
