Respected Sirs, Myself is Kalyan Ghosh from Behala. My wife is 29+ year old and blood group O+. She had a Ectopic Pregnancy in January 2011 and we had to rush to admit her in a private hospital in KOlkata here. The doctors had to do an emergency operation as her right side tube was ruptured . During operation they ( the hospital authority) transfused four units of blood after operation to regularise her blood pressure. As per advise from doctors we tried to conceive after six months of her operation ( August 2011) . After conceive and during the routine check up doctors found her Anti – HCV reading reactive (2.76). They advised her to get SGPT and SGOT and HCV Quantative test done. As per advise the tests were done on November 2011 and reading were as follows : SGOT : 36 units/L SGPT : 51 units/L HCV Quantative Realtime PCR :Less than detectable limit (<100) At that time she was almost 14 weeks pregnant. After consulting with docs , she was advised to carry on the pregnancy and not abort though they declared her as HCV positive. They also said the blood might be infected with Hep-C virus and might be was in window period. She gave a normal delivery of our only baby in May 2012. During this investigation we came to know that the blood was trasnfused by the hospital authority were infected with Hep- C Virus and that was the reason behind this infection but on asking the hospital authority simply denied the matter and said they could not help since the virus was in window period in the blood and so it could not be traced and they did not done it intentionaly. NOW MY QUERY IS THAT : Can we accuse the hospital for negligency of treatment as becasue of the infected transfused blood she is suffereing from such severe infection ? Kindly let us know to whom and whre can we raise our compliant properly since the hospital is a run and managed by a reputed and big riligous organization in Kolkakta. Entire Treatment cost of the patient and treatment of the new born baby if he is already infected from his monther and treatment cost of the family members who also got infected throu her. Except above the monetary compensation for the loss we bear and mental trauma we are passing during the period for the entire process .
