Idea – Wrong information Unfair billing practices

I’m an old customer of Idea, with at least 3 connections in my household. I regularly pay anywhere between Rs 1500-2000 for various services. But looks like thats not enough for you and you still want to make more monies through unfair billing practices. Let me elaborate. I’d 1GB 3G pack activated on my mobile which costs me Rs 250/month. Fair enough. If I come close to crossing that limit, I will call up their customer care number and ask for volume booster which costs another Rs 250 for 1GB. Nice enough. This month, on the 2nd day of my monthly billing cycle, when I was about to reach that limit or may have slightly crossed that, I call them up and asked for volume booster. The customer care officer instead told me about 3GB/unlimited plan for Rs 650. That sounded interesting given I was traveling during Diwali week, my 3G data consumption was high. So I accepted that plan. The month went by and I consumed a total of 2210MB 3G data in the month. So if I’d taken a volume booster, like what I wanted, I would have probably paid Rs 250 + Rs 250 + Rs 152 = Rs 662 (for additional 152MB at 1paisa/10KB). But given that I opted for Rs 600 3G unlimited plan, I thought my billing should even be less. But here comes the shocker. How much should Idea charge me? A total of Rs 2772!!! Now lets see some of the unfair billing practices by Idea. 1. I’d paid Rs 250 (pro-rata) for 1GB plan and Rs 650 (pro-rata) for 3GB unlimited plan. Assuming I changed the billing plan for second day, that comes to: 2 days @ 250/month = Rs 16 28 days @ 650/month = Rs 608 Free benefits should have been: 2 days @ 1GB/month = 68MB 28 days @ 3GB/month = 2867MB So total charges of Rs 624 and total benefits of 2935MB. My bill includes the total charges, but how about the free benefits. Given my total usage, I should not have been charged anything extra i.e. my total bill for data usage should have been no more than Rs 624 2. Even assuming that I don’t have any monthly data pack, the total charges as per their pulse rate should have been maximum Rs 2272 (but note that’s not the case, but I did have monthly packs activated on my phone all the time) My bill looks likes this: Feature Charges Feature Description Period Amount GPRS Core Service_SB_0_Acc_250_289 19-Oct-2014 – 20-Oct-2014 16.130 GPRS Core Service_SB_0_Acc_650_382 21-Oct-2014 – 18-Nov-2014 608.060 Total 624.190 GPRS(Volume) Usage – 2212850.000 Rs 1164.860 Free Units (Volume) – 1047990.000 Charges on Data Pack Pro-ration # – 980.340 Sure, I’ve no clue how the free benefits are calculated. Repeated attempts to get that information has failed and I keep getting back same mechanical answer every time. Even if they have super cool method to calculate these values, they are so against any fair practice, by any standards. I must stress upon the point that what I’d asked them was a simple volume booster. If they suggest me something better, better it be better than what I’m asking. If not, they must explain all the

1. I would like the company to refund the excess money collected. 2. I would like the company to clearly mention all details regarding bill plan change in the mid month. 3. I would like the company to rectify the billing practices so that customers are not penalised 4. I would like the company to train their customer support executives to give all important information to the customers while dealing with any change that can have serious financial implications
