India Post – Parcel never reached no service

We had sent a book worth Rs.299 and spent another Rs.170-180 to send it the product to our friend in Canada. The parcel never reached the destination and nobody in the postal department has any idea abt. it. We had made it a registered post but still we could not track it once it left the Indian shores. How can the government charge us for registered services and not provide complete end-to-end service till the goods reach their destination? Who will pay for this loss when the customer is made to run around in the bureaucratic framework with no result. This is not the first time it has happened. Even the inter state parcels with eatables and rakhi gifts have never reached us (which were sent by our parents and siblings). This is shameful and show the character of the people working in the post office. Even private couriers are abusing their position where they have access to a consumer’s product and are taking liberty to consume/use it for their personal gain and tamper the records with false status. Not a single courier service provider takes the responsibility for the loss or damage of an item which leaves the customer with no choice but to gamble even after paying huge sums of money.

Since I haven’t kept the receipt of this international delivery by Post Office, I am unable to provide any further details. However, to save myself in the future, from these autocratic service providers, would like to know more about my rights and laws in this regard.
