I live in a flat where the builder provided a Kaff Hob. The Hob was installed in my apartment in late Dec 2102/early Jan 2013. The hob was box packed and opened in front of me by the maintenance people. In Nov 2013 the hob caught fire. The fire caused damage to the cabinets as well as the hob itself. The hob carries a 1 year warranty. It has been less than 1 year since I used the hob. Kaff is refusing to honor the warranty saying that it has been more than 1 year since they ‘sold’ it to the builder. Now the product does carry a 1 year warranty and it is a fact that I have used the product for less than a year. The company does NOT dispute that. It is merely saying that since they sold to the builder more than a year ago they are not responsible. While my point is that they should be. I have proof that the equipment was used less than a year. This is NOT a retail sale case. Kaff sold in bulk to the builder. The actual use of the equipment would come at a much later date. The warranty should be from actual use, within reasonable limits. In bulk/institutional sales the sale might have happened much before. I also have complaint about the defect in the product that allowed the gas to leak in the first place. It could have caused a major fire incidence. We are a complex of about 150 flats. I called IGL people (the gas supplier) and they tell me that in past 1 year there have been 4-5 cases of fire from Kaff. 4-5 cases of fire in a year is too much. It definitely points to some product defect.
1. My hob should be serviced free of charge. 2. The company should look into product defects and rectify the same. Ideally for all residents of the apartment complex. Else this is tragedy waiting to happen. 3. Pay for damages for my cabinets. The cost is around 5000.
