I have bought a electric geyser (high end of Kailash brand) in feb 2011 from Girias, in Bangalore and have been using it since then in t he bathroom which is attached to our master bedroom. on 9th of Aug 2013, the geyser was switched on as how we do it daily. After a couple of minutes, when I went to the bathroom, I noticed that the lower part of the geyser had caught fire and all the wires were melting and burning. I immediately switched off the geyser and ran over to turn the main switch off so that I can douse the fire. I switched off the mains and the inverter and threw the water onto the geyser to put the fire off. It was disturbing to see a product which is supposed to be safe and ensure safety all the time, give up and catch fire. I have aged parents and my wife is pregnant and cannot imagine how they would have handled the situation if they were on their own. I have spoken to Kailash customer services and their response to this situation is so damp that they sound as if it is a common occurrence in their factory and the MD is very rude. He is very judgmental and was offering solutions and discounts on other products as a replacement; where as I insisted on how can a so called safe product catch fire. He response to that was very vague and says it is none of my business to know that. As a responsible citizen and as a customer, I am entitled to know the company’s product performance when in use.
would want to understand what would be the action that will be taken from the company and then come back to me on what relief can be given.
