I had registered my mobile# with the NDNC registry more than 2 years ago. As a result, the promotional calls/SMSes had slowed to a trickle (even if they hadn’t completely stopped).

Recently however, I started getting a flood of such SMSes and a few calls. On enquiring with my service provider (Airtel), I was told that my number had been taken off the NDNC as of October this year. They suggested that I must have taken it off myself, since no one else is authorized to do so! Of course I had done no such thing.

Airtel is unable to find out how my mobile number was de-registered — they claim it’s not in their control at all, since the NDNC is run by a separate organization.

Any suggestions on how I can find out what happened, and prevent it from happening again?
