Power Steering problem in Hyundai Getz Car in 2 Years 9 Months

I purchased Hyundai Getz Car from Downtown Baroda, in Feb-07 and today 15-Dec-09 it’s out of warranty. Now my car had problem of Seal Leakage in Power Steering. When given for repair to Downtown Service Centre – Baroda they could not replace the SEAL and tried 2-3 times but not able to fix the NEW SEAL. As they don’t have expertise in doing this kind of repair job. This shows that this type of problems in Power Steering in Normal running are NOT seen very frequently. Generally Power Steering should not have any probelm for years together in normal running. Now since they are not able to replace the SEAL they advised me to REPLACE ENTIRE POWER STEERING which costs approx. Rs. 23000/-, I was surprised to know this because it’s not worth to spend Rs 23000/- in just 2 year 10 months of normal running of Hyundai Car. This is clearly a MATERIAL QUALITY ISSUE but they are not ready to accept this Material Quality Issue, they also agreed that they have very rarely seen such problems in POWER STEERING LEAKAGE. Now I have no option but to replace ENTIRE POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY at a cost of Rs.23000/-(Approx).

I would request you to look into this matter because had it happened due to an accident or demage of any other parts like radiator/Ac/Fan/body, I can understand that Warranty Clause will be applicable. But this is the case of NORMAL RUNNING of CAR without any physical damage and failure of POWER STEERING (which is an internal component). This shows it’s purely because of poor workmanship and material quality issue. Hyundai should take this as a lession in improving their Power Steering Desing rather than going into WARRANTY CLAUSE. Because POWER STEERING is designed to WORK for many years and NOT just for WARRNTY PERIOD ONLY. Why the customer should be penalized for this failure. This should be replaced FREE OF COST.
