Sub: Non-issue of cheque book and Debit Card on Savings Account No. 33580597509 opened at Branch Code 08696, Shastri Nagar, Meerut. The undermentioned complaint written on 12/01/2014 remains unresolved as on date. Not even a proper formal reply has been rendered by the bank authorities: Respected Sir/Madam, I had just on 11/01/2014 opened a self operative Savings Account. Prior to formally visiting the Branch i.e. (Branch Code 08696, SHASTRI NAGAR, MEERUT, UTTAR PRADESH), I had filled in all my details online on the SBI Website on 10/01/2014, wherein I had PRECISELY OPTED FOR BOTH CHEQUE BOOK AND DEBIT CARD FACILITY. Having opted so, my application was accepted online and I went to the branch personally to get my documents verified and to get the pass book etc. However, to my surprise, they informed me that I could not be issued a Debit Card nor a Cheque Book as some time was still left till I would attain the age of majority. Sir/Madam, in this connection I reproduce below the guidelines of the RBI as per their master circular RBI/2013-14/60 DBOD.No.FSD.BC. 4/24.01.011/2013-1 dated July 1, 2013 wherein para II regarding issue of Debit Cards by banks reads as under: Board approved policy Debit cards should be issued to customers having Saving Bank/Current Accounts. Sir/Madam, kindly understand that I have to go out of station, rather even out of my parent State for higher studies/coaching for which I had opted to bank with and on the largest bank of India (So is what is said !) and on which the Nation Banks. In the event of non issue of a cheque book or mainly a debit card how would I be able to operate my account. You would appreciate that issue of at least a debit card is extremely essential to me and the local authorities at Meerut be kindly instructed to the effect please. Sir/Madam, my complaint already rests with the branch vide ticket No. CS869611007996. My father is also alternately filing an RTI Application as to how are the guidelines of the RBI in this regard being followed by the bank.
