Airtel – 3G billing exorbitant rates

Dear Sir/Madam, I am a power user of 3G services since my work depends on it and had applied for 9GB 3G pack for a monthly payment of 950rs(approx) . Whenever the limit gets over I stop being able to access the internet and hence I pay money to Airtel‘s “SmartByte” option – for the cycle November 12-December 12 I had paid 950 for the package and 300 for 1gb and 475 twice for 2gb each there for ammounting to a total usage of 14GB. I was charged Rs. 1800 extra on top of this and on inquiring was told that I had used approx 370mb extra which was billed at 50p/KB. Same has happened for previous cycle also. Nowhere was I informed during applying for the 3G plan, that this exorbitant charge exists after crossing limits. Morover it’s my experience that internet stops after the data limit is reached.

More than economically compensating me, I believe it’s a fundamental duty of an enterprise to inform the customer of the fact that their data limit is exhausted and that further usage will be billed (and the billing amount). Most other operators either stop 3G services once the plan is over or provide for unlimited packs that throttle the bandwidth to 10kbps.
