I purchased a Macbook Air 11″ Laptop serial no. C02M33 3BF5N7 in March 2014 from Reliance Digital store in Dwarka, New Delhi, India-110075 for my daughter Ishita. I also purchased an Apple Protection plan so that I could be at peace for next three years. I was told that the Laptop, battery, power Adaptor and software are covered in Warranty upto March 2017. To be safe, I was also advised that since the charger cable are not very robust, it would be best to have some tape applied at both ends (adaptor end and laptop end) so that it doesn’t start shearing due to regular use. I instantly agreed as I also use an I-phone and most users tie tape at both ends to safeguard the cable from shearing off.
Recently my power Adaptor started giving trouble and would at times charge or not charge. On visiting the Apple authorised Service center in Janakpuri, New Delhi M/s Esteem Technologies, West end Mall, Near Janakpuri Metro Station, Janakpuri, New Delhi-58, I was told that the cable end near to Adaptor has started to shear and hence cannot be replaced in Warranty. I am shocked to learn this as my Adaptor is not broken and charges/ does not charge due nick in the cable which is essentially due to regular use of the Adaptor. Sir, I purchased APP for Rs.14,500/-(USD 216.94) extra precisely to buy peace of mind and not to be shocked into being advised to buy a new Adaptor for Rs.6600/-(USD 99.00) The Service center incharge infact evan showed us that all Adaptors in his service center has taped covering to prevent shearing from usage. The fact that even the Service center recommends taping both ends of the adaptor cable for I-phone, Macbook etc. but denies warranty replacement to Customers is an extremely sorry state of affairs. That Apple should treat a Customer who spent Rs.14000/ (USD 216) for APP and be denied Warranty replacement of Adaptor is very very unfair practice. May I request you to provide me a Warranty replacement of the faulty Adaptor and also take this issue for Apple Inc. policy review especially for those who paid a huge sum to buy APP. If these unfair practices are not stopped, I am afraid people will slowly drift away from Apple products, some of the reasons your Quarter ending results for Apple India sales are down by 35%. If the motto of Apple India/Apple Inc. is to deny Warranty by any means, then my trust in this great Company and its products stands completely eroded.
