I would like to report malpractice at the “Anant Doodh” store, Kalachowki. The incident took place between 10:15 a.m. – 11:30a.m on 30/12/2012. I requested the shopkeeper for 1 litre of Mahananda milk. I was given two packets of 0.5 litres each with a MRP of Rs. 15/- each. The shopkeeper asked for a total sum of Rs. 31/-. I refused to pay any higher than the mentioned MRP. I was rudely told to get lost from the shop and that they would not sell me any milk. To rectify this problem I visited the Kalachowki police station, whereby I put forward my complaint to the attending police officer. He gave me an assurance of helping me out by telling me to return to the shop and buy the milk at the said MRP, failing which I was to contact the same police officer by phone on a phone number provided by him. I returned to the shop and enquired if they were willing to sell the milk at the said MRP. They blatantly refused. So I called back the police officer, who asked me to hand the phone over to the shopkeeper. One lady took up the phone and had a conversation with the police officer. After the conversation, I was informed by the lady that she was told to sell the milk if she wants to sell it. I called back the police officer to confirm the same, but to me he said that he had told the lady to sell the milk as per MRP and charge no more. This obviously proved that she was lying and even after a police complaint, the shop was trying to violate the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules. I refused to pay more than Rs. 30/- for the 1 litre of milk and refused to budge on the constant rude behaviour and abuses from the shopkeepers. I was even forced away from the shop’s counter physically. In the end I was forced to buy 0.5 litres of milk at Rs. 16/- still higher than the MRP. Kindly sort out this issue as it is clear from the attitude of the shopkeepers that they have taken the freedom to cheat without any consequential regard, and a lot of people are getting cheated unknowingly.
