Sir/Mam
I am a customer of your desktop PCs since the year 2000. In the month of May 2006, I bought a computer from you, a Compaq Presario SR1732IL with a serial number INI6100757. Since the first day of my purchase, I started to face problems with it. I am serially telling you what all I went through after purchasing this desktop PC with as much information as I can.
1. 26th October 2006
CASE ID- CA0311818
PROBLEM- The S-video port of my PC did not give a video output to my TV. Although I contacted the dealer regarding the problem but he couldn’t rectify it because of which I contacted you)
RESULT- I was advised that the S-video cable is at fault. I got it replaced.
2. 26th March 2007
CASE ID- CA0380282
PROBLEM- S-video port was again not working even with a new and working cable that was tried and tested on another PC where this new cable worked perfectly fine.
RESULT- The on site technician told me that the TV is unable to receive the signal. He concluded that the PC is absolutely fine. Then, I got my TV checked and it was perfectly fine as it connected to my Digital Camera without any problem.
After 1 year of trying in vain, I gave up hope and concluded that the S-video function will never work on my PC. Till date, the issue is not resolved and I am helpless. After my second case, I again tried to contact you to arrange for another technician visit to rectify this particular problem after checking both my S-video cable and my TV which were perfectly alright but in reply I received a mail from you stating that we cannot provide any more engineer visits because I had already had so many of them regarding the same issue. The
S-video port was the only function that caught my eye when I was buying this PC and till date it has not functioned properly and I feel betrayed. I have given up all hope regarding this issue. Concludingly, I was forced to buy a DVD player which I thought I wouldn’t have bought if the S-video function had not given such problems. I wanted to watch movies on my TV by using my PC’s S-video port and DVD writer.
3. 5th April 2008
CASE ID- CA0563668
PROBLEM- DVD Writer was not reading DVDs that could be read by my Laptop.
RESULT- I was told to reinstall the Operating system and even re-install drivers as it could read bootable discs when the engineer visited my place.
4. 11th September 2008
CASE ID- CA0647323
PROBLEM- DVD writer not reading any discs, not even bootables.
RESULT- DVD writer was replaced.
5. 17th September 2008 (After 6 days of the previous call)
CASE ID- CA0650407
PROBLEM- The DVD writer was again not working and was not reading bootable discs too.
RESULT- The on site engineer rectified the problem somehow, I don’t know how. Maybe, he changed a cable.
But, even after replacing the DVD writer my PC has issues reading discs and there are many DVDs and also CDs with me which my Laptop can read perfectly fine but my PC always fails to read and throws some error or the other. So, the DVD writer is still not working fine and is as problematic as it was before even after a lot of engineer visits and even after a replacement.
6. 11th October 2008
CASE ID- CA0662813
PROBLEM- I needed some drivers after formatting my PC.
RESULT- Online technician gave me a link for the driverpool from where I installed the required drivers.
7. 10th November 2008
CASE ID- CA0678979
PROBLEM- VGA driver was not getting installed.
RESULT- The online technician advised to reinstall windows and see if it worked. I did that and it got installed.
8. 27th November 2008
CASE ID- CA0687709
PROBLEM- LAN card drivers were not getting installed and the onboard LAN was not working.
RESULT- The motherboard was replaced and the LAN problem was rectified but even after this replacement the S-video problem as well as DVD writer issue was not resolved.
9. 17th June 2009
CASE ID- CA0784842
PROBLEM- Since the day my motherboard was changed I suspected that the booting process of my PC was not as before and it always gave a “beep” while booting with a message “Default BIOS settings have been loaded due to BIOS update or checksum issue”. The on site technician assured that it was a new BIOS update and there was nothing to worry about. I am not a computer guru so I thought maybe it was a system check performed by the PC and never knew it was an error message beeping because after booting the PC showed no sign of any hardware error. I trusted him and worked normally on my PC until this day when my PC immediately went to sleep after 10-15 seconds of starting a game, this thing never happened to me earlier. So, I called you and the online technician asked if I got any error message while this thing happened. By, matter of chance I disclosed that I always get a CMOS checksum error on startup. He told me to change the CMOS battery. But, even after changing the CMOS battery with a new one, the computer would sleep while starting a game. So, they told me to open up the case and locate the jumpers on the motherboard. To our surprise, we find my motherboard has no jumpers on it. They advice me to contact the service center and get it rectified on chargeable basis as my warranty expired in May 2009.
RESULT- Now why do I pay for getting an issue resolved that was caused by negligence by an on site technician who came to replace my motherboard? I am a consumer and I don’t know what a Jumper or for that matter any other component on the motherboard looks like!
10. 18th June 2009
CASE ID- CA0785596
PROBLEM- Right after they told me to open up the case and locate jumpers, my PC stopped booting. When I press the power button, the PC didn’t respond. No beep, no light, no rotating fans, nothing! The online technician tried rectifying the issue by asking me to pull out the power plug from my CPU and hold down power button for thirty seconds but to no avail.
RESULT- I was again told to contact the service center on chargeable basis by the floor manager of the call center Mr. Abhishek.
So, at the base of it, I am left with a bricked PC which DOES NOTHING NORMAL. It does not boot, does not beep, does not do anything on pressing the power button. It has issues reading DVDs, issues in outputting video to my TV since three years etc.etc. What do I do? Why do I pay for negligence on your part? I KNOW THAT MY COMPUTER HAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT as it does not do anything perfectly fine. IT CANNOT READ DVDs, IT CANNOT OUTPUT VIDEO TO MY TV AND IT GOES DEAD WHENEVER IT WISHES TO. At present, I am left with a PC which is totally useless and not at all reliable. It is dusting in my room totally dead and is an utter junkbox. Please take away this box from my home and either compensate with something better than this or just give me my money back so that I get a new PC assembled rather than buying a branded one just because I have had a horrible experience. I seriously want a compensation for this. I will be waiting for a responsible reply from your side.
Yours Faithfully
