Policy No 4129/21231972/00/000 Claim No. M038382.58 My daughter travelled to US on student visa for studies. We bought Policy to cover the travel risk and health insurance cover. She reached Delhi on 23 August 13 evening to take AI flight same night to Chicago and there after connecting flight to San Francisco. She checked in with luggage, obtained boarding Card. A while later she was called out to be informed that she is offloaded on some instructions of US Government agencies. obviously it was some overzealous security screening mess at US end. Ultimately US agency did clear the passage but she was already offloaded. Air India revalidated the ticket for flight on next day but Chicago to San Francisco flight was bound to miss. We approached United Airlines office in Delhi to consider our case sympathetically but to no avail. We had to buy fresh ticket since change of schedule attracts heavy penalty in US apart from difference in fare. We informed ICICI Lombard on 24 Aug 2013 itself and email and they suggested to formally lodge the claim. In the Gold-W50 policy, there is coverage for trip cancellations and interruptions as well as missed flight connection. She had technically commenced her journey by reaching Delhi and checked in with valid Boarding pass. Interruption due to some mess led to missed flight connection. Now after several protracted correspondence through email and personal visit to their office, I have received reply that as per their policy insured should have been on the immediate flight to missed flight. First policy expressly provide coverage for missed flight. Second no such exclusions were explained or informed to us while buying policy which was finalised in their office in person. We have claimed only the fare cost Rs 30,110 which we paid for new ticket from Chicago to san Francisco. Refusal to entertain claim by agents of ICICI Lombard is violation of their express commitment. We are not fault for interruption and consequent missed flight.

Rs 30,110/- now with suitable interest from the day of claim was lodged.
