I have purchased a flight tkt on 30 Sep 2013 for travel from Richmond(RIC) to HYD(HYD) on Feb 04 2014. My booking ID is NN570113607797. I was told at the time of purchase, by the agent at the kiosk in Rajiv Gandhi Intl airport, Hyderabad, that my ticket is fully refundable and can be cancelled, if desired before the travel date. I paid close to $1400 for the ticket expecting full refund.I would have purchased the lesser priced ticket, had I known that there would be penalties involved for both refundable/Non-refundable tickets. My attempts to cancel the ticket through the customer care numbers for both USA (where iam currently located) and India (through my friends calling on my behalf, as suggested by CSR of makemytrip) have proved futile, as i am being transferred from department to department without any clear information. The final update that I have is that I have to go to the counter at the Hyderabad airport, to be able to cancel the ticket, as it was booked through the agent at a counter. This is the most ridiculous thing that i have heard in a long time, as it absolutely makes no sense. I paid two transactions : $1374.84 which is INR 86030 and $78.99 which is INR 4945 Both transactions happened on Sep 30th, 2013 I have asked a friend to check with customer care as I cannot access their IVR from the US using a calling card. The update i have is that i will be charged INR 6500 (airline cancellation penalty) + 12.36 tax (INR 810) + INR 500(Makemytrip.com fee) and INR 300 (Refund admin fee) total INR 8110. I have no choice but to cancel the ticket as I cannot risk losing close to INR 93000, waiting for any response from makemytrip.com

It would be great, if the company could refund the full value of my ticket without the penalties of INR 8110, that they are charging me now. I do not expect any other form of compensation from a company that clearly does not take care about the quality of franchises they operate.
