MTNL Mumbai- landline instrument fault-not being replaced

This is with regards to my landline no. 022-28776365 at Ashwini-2, Mahindra Nagar, Malad (East), Mumbai-400097. From the past few months, the instrument is faulty; I am unable to hear anything on the phone. I have complained on 28772198 as well as online on www.mtnlmumbai.in. The online system provides a docket no. for instance docket no. 8398 in one such instance of complaint booking and surprisingly when I query for the status of the complaint online, the complaint is stated as being resolved. The lineman visited my residence and after checking the instrument acknowledged the instrument fault and requested us to replace the instrument at our own cost as MTNL does not have any stock now.

When I called a senior officer of MTNL Mr. Pereira on 28752100/28780538, he bluntly informed me that MTNL does not have any instruments now, there is no tendering taking place and I should replace the instrument at my own cost. When I asked him to whom the matter should be escalated and as to whether there is any e-mail id or contact no. of such higher official, he said there is no such escalation available and abruptly handed over the call to his junior who initially expressed helplessness and then chose to keep quiet. Ultimately I had to disconnect. This is the callous approach of MTNL towards its customers. If this continues to be the approach, surely and certainly customers will opt for other private sector players. I am reachable on 99675404XX.
