Samsung Fridge on Fire – Destroy Household Items

Hi, My fridge had an issue as its door was not closing properly and it was leaving a gap of 1” inch. I had lodged complaint on 24 April 2013 and after lot of follow ups finally an engineer visited us on 28th April. He checked everything and mentioned that the door has a problem as it is missing washers. Asked him to fix the same to which he responded that he does not have the washers and I should buy them. When I responded that it’s in warranty and they should carry these parts. He mentioned normally this is part of manufacturing and I would have to wait for an hour before he gets the same and fixes the fridge. I tried reaching him multiple times at his mobile # 8506096119 without any help. Also all my follow ups with customer service , emails, email to CEO’s office bore no results. Finally I got a call from Mr. Pradeep who mentioned that an engineer will fix the same on May 1, 2013 by 6pm. Engineer called me from Mobile # 8506096112 and said he is on his way and will reach by 6pm. My follow ups with him were of no use as he also didn’t turned up. On the fateful day of May 2, 2013 in morning at around 7:20 am, we all left home to drop kids for school and came back in about 30 mins.

On reaching home we found that the fridge was on fire and its parts have flown all over the place. This caused mass destruction to my other household stuff like fans, pooja room, crockery stand, tubes, lights, doors, windows panes etc. Due to the impact my entire dining table has been lost alongwith with other stuff lying on the table like – cheque books, laptop, bank policies, purse containing credit/debit card, driving license. Due to the heat and smoke my whole house became dark something like burning of coal, gases and plastic. This also caused damage to my Air con. Samsung engineers visited us home and took picture of the estimate loss which I had told them of around 3 lacs including whitewash, door replacement, wiring, fans, window panes, dining table, etc. They said they are putting in claim and will soon revert. Later they came to me with a proposal to accept fridge in lieu of lost fridge and settle the claim. Hesitantly I accepted the same as I was not in position to run after them. Now they are asking me to furnish an indemnity that I have accepted the fridge as replacement for all my losses whiteout actually providing the one. I have told them that I can sign the indemnity only once I receive the replacement of similar or higher size fridge. Samsung is of the opinion that I should sign the letter first and then if they find one then they will give me the fridge. I look upto you for help on this and make me good for my entire loss.
