This complaint is with regard to the appalling Wi-Fi Services at SASTRA University. In addition to more than three-four months worth of days with no wi-fi connection, with reasons given as diverse as spare parts not shipped to connections being given to new building ASK 2, I regret to inform that the students and staff have suffered more than a fair share. I am pleased that SASTRA does a lot in taking care of faculty and students, but for a university claiming to be so-called “World-Class” with a Rs.10,000 “Development Fee” collected from each student, yet claiming to give “free wifi”, I am utterly disappointed and hurt. For my part, I have missed online coursework examinations (MCA, MBA) due to be undertaken, thanks to the wifi issues, and had to pay late exam fees of Rs.300 per paper. I also speak on behalf of the pre final year and final year students who had to undergo extreme levels of suffering, you could see students rushing to libraries and canteens trying to fill and upload their resumes – all this on the eve of their placements. Is this how a responsible university claims “excellent placement record”? I am terribly upset and ashamed of the university with regards to their “infrastructure”. Finally, the reason that prompted me most to raise this complaint was the complete absence of wi-fi for the past 2 weeks. I understand it is summer vacations, but do not the university shamelessly ask “atleast” one third of the faculty and all the research scholars to stay at any time in vacation, while depriving them of basic wifi facilities? I demand immediate rectification, and ensure proper wifi connection within a week (this means truly uninterrupted service of wifi with full backup from July 1, 2015 onwards), failing which I demand weekly compensation of Rs.300 per faculty member and Rs.100 per student member for every week with an interrupted wifi service. This rate is calculated taking into account typical 2G/3G rates charged by the cellular and dongle based services that inhabitants of sastra rely upon as alternatives.
