I had ordered a Room heater(Morphy Richards Room Heater – Heat Convector – TIPSY) from shopclues.com on the 13th of December. The billing address was in Mumbai while the shipping address was clearly mentioned and is located in Meerut, U.P. The room heater was brought for my grandparents who live in Meerut as the temperatures had fallen down to single digits and the cold had become unbearable. The website said the delivery will be made in 5-7 working days. However, the product finally reached my grandparents place only on 28th December. The unreasonable delay caused severe discomfort. Also the website says that – “We do continuous follow up with the courier till the order is not delivered and if there is a delay in delivery we send periodic updates on your registered email and SMS.” But none of this was done in our case. In fact we had to repetitively call them up to find out the reason for delay and to ask for our product to be delivered as soon as possible. We had first called up their customer care cell to complain about the delay on the 22nd of December.
I believe firstly it is important that websites of online retailing fulfil their promises and promise only when they are capable of fulfilling the promises they make. Keeping their customers under false impressions like this cannot be justified. When you promise to deliver the goods in 5-7 days it should not take more than that. A delay of a good 14 days in not acceptable. I seek a monetary compensation of atleast Rs.5000/- in account of the unreasonable delay and inconvenience caused to the user of the product. The District Forum may however award as much compensation as it deems fit and take the necessary steps to provide protection and justice to customers.
