Cancelled Balance Transfer Cheque dropped in Citi Cheque Drop Box

Unfortunately, I hold a SBI railway credit card 4317 xxxx xxxx 6542. On 01st Aug, I placed a Balance Transfer request for Rs 12,750 to pay off the balance on my Citibank Mastercard. I was informed that the check will be sent within 10 business days. I did not receive the check on time and on 10th Aug I called customer care; spoke to Ojasvi and cancelled the balance transfer check as the due date for my Citi card had arrived and I had to pay cash to avoid late fee and finance charges. The ref# 0112230017719 for BT cancellation was provided to me. The reversal of the BT amount and the transaction fee correctly reflected on this month’s statement as well.

To my surprise SBI dropped the cancelled check in Citibank’s drop box last week without my authorization, which as expected was dishonored by SBI. Citibank ended up blocking my card as I presented a bad check and is surely going to report this to Cibil as well since all the financial transactions are reported by them. I need to understand why a cancelled check was dropped at Citibank without my authorization which has resulted in so much inconvenience to me and would be reported to Cibil as well
