Fortis Hospital Anandapur, W.B – Poor Treatement

My mother was admitted on 18.01.15 at Fortis, Rashbehari Ave. Hospital after undergoing prolong OPD treatment for Renal Failure and CKD under Dr. Arup Ratan Dutta who suggested for Haemodialysis for twice a week. After admission on 18.01.15, Dialysis was started from 19.01.15 and she was feeling a bit better after getting released on 26.01.15 and remained at residence. On 18.02.15 night she suddenly fell ill after having her dialysis on 16.02.15 and on contacted over phone through PBX, the RMO Dr. Saigal told not to worry as this is a common problem of the Dialysis Patient. But the situation aggravated on 19.02.15 and I took her to Fortis , Rash Behari Ave. and contacted the RMO on duty in the noon for her admission at the said hospital but inspite of humble request they turned down my request on the plea of nonavailability of bed and send the patient to Fortis , Anandapur, where she was admitted in the emergency at 06-39 p.m.on the same day. Prior to this Dr, A.R.Dutta assured me that transplant of Kidney can be done as the patient was responding positively. I

It is a pity to say from the first day in Fortis , Anandapur, myself with my relatives experienced a ruthless behaviour from the management as well as the medical personnels. In the night she was placed in the bed from Emergency . There were two trainee nurse who were looking after 08 patients and they are from South India. There was a serious problem of language bar as they only understand South Indian Language which was beyond our knowledge. There was no attending RMO to whom we could approach. Nobody was found in the Nurses Station outside the ward. We were overwhelmed about what to do or not to do. We could not contact Dr. A.R.Dutta as he was very reluctant to provide his contact number to the patient party from the very begining of the treatment at OPD. At the time of Dialysis at Fortis, Rash Behari Ave.,we used to supply GENTICYN Inj. with disposable syringe to the technicians as prescribed for anti-infection treatment. But no such medicines were given to my mother at Fortis, Anandapur nor we were asked to collect it from outside pharmacy. On 20.02.15 at about 11 A.M.,Dr. A.R.Dutta told me to forget about transplanting Kidney as the physical condition of my mother is getting worse and the Platelets were decreasing rapidly . On 26.02.15 the attending RMO , Dr. Seth , was asked to know the reasons of inadequate Platelets and he was also asked whether the decrease of Platelets were due to infection in the dialysis channel in her neck or not but he declined to answer. On 26.02.15 Bone Marrow was suggested and done.

In the report Leukemia was detected and it was an advanced stage. On 02.03.15 when myself with my maternal aunts and other relatives were at the Hospital in the visiting hour saw the detoriated condition of my mother and I ran to and fro to contact a doctor but in vain. The trainee nurses were reluctant to attend her and continued to tell that since she is a dialysis patient, she would have many symptoms like that. At about 08-20 P.M. we saw in a horror that she was grasping for air but there was nobody to attend her or to place the Oxygen to relieve her . When I shouted like anything the nurse rang the emergency bell and some doctors came to the ward with apparatus and oxygen was given but then my mother already expired. A dead person can not respond to a medical treatment ! Now my questions are: 1) Why the doctors of such well advertised “Multi Speciality Hospital”are not available or reluctant to provide their contact numbers when the patients are in a serious condition and they need to be contacted? 2) Why untrained nurses are given duty who has the language problem and more astonishing that 2 nurses are provided to look after 8 patients in a ward ! 3) Why infection management was not done at Fortis, Anandapur? 4) Why the patient party was kept in the dark about the reasons of rapid decreasing of Platelets? Why the Leukemia was detcted when it was in advanced stage? 5) I demanded the Cash Memos of various medicines supplied from the in house pharmacy of Fortis, Anandapur but it was declined that the final bill showed the cost of medicines supplied from the pharmacy but there was no payment of VAT and other taxes to be paid to the Government. Why such system are continuing ?
