Indiatimes.com – Defective Mobile, No Customer Service

Hi, This complaint is about a sub-standard, defective product manufactured and marketed by Micromax. I purchased the mobile device ‘Micromax Canvas Duet 2 – EG111’ for Rs.14633/- via online purchase at Indiatimes.com portal on 11-May-14 through 6 month EMI option. The device was delivered on 18-May-14. However, I noticed that the device was very slow and not functioning properly. I took the device to Micromax Service Center ‘Care Point’ at Bangalore on 23-May-14. The service engineer ‘worked’ for 2 hours and told me that there was an issue with the software and the same has been updated. But, I still found issues with the device & took it back to the service centre on 30-May-14. This time, the service centre retained the device for a thorough investigation with Job sheet no. S010224-0514-9940141. After a week of analysis, I was informed that the motherboard was defective and had to be replaced at their Headoffice at Gurgoan. The Jobsheet no. was revised to S010224-0614-9989534. The ‘rectified’ device was delivered back to me on 10-Jul-14 but on usage, I noticed that the device still didn’t perform well and it was getting very hot. I took the device back to service centre on 12-Jul-14. I was told that the motherboard had to be replaced yet again and a new Jobsheet no. was raised on 15-Jul-14 as S010224-0714-10850020. Since then the device is still at the service center. Every time, I call the Service Centre Manager – Mr. Nirmal , I am told that the device is not responding to the repairs & the engineers are at work trying to understand and solve the problems!! Unable to use a new phone for over 3 months since I purchased it, I have lost all patience and confidence on the device & on Micromax. I also wish to be relieved from the mental stress of hopeless communications with Micromax team regarding this faulty device that surely shouldn’t have been released into the market. I would appreciate if CCC takes my case seriously with Micromax and ensure Justice is prevailed.

Following is the break-up of cost/loss incurred due to ownership of faulty device : Cost of the mobile device – Rs. 14633/- Interest paid for Credit Card EMI option – Rs. 629/- Cost incurred due to 5 visits to Service Center @ Rs. 200/visit – Rs. 1000/- Loss incurred due to un-used MTS connection – Rs. 1500/- Total – 17762/- (Rupees Seventeen Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Two)
