We had become life members of Indira Nagar club Chennai on 1st May 2014 after paying an amount of Rs 56,134/-. We availed the facilities for 5 months only after which due to personal compulsions we had to shift to a place about 30 kms away in the outskirts of Chennai. Due to lack of proximity tt was not possible for us to use the club facilities on a regular basis. We submitted a written request in October 2014 asking the club to consider refund of at least part of the membership fees since we had used it only for 5 months and did not foresee using the facility any further. We are aware that the club membership rules prohibit refund of deposit under any circumstances. However, we requested them to consider our plea since we had availed of the facilities only for 5 months. We followed up the letter with 2 mails dated 18th Dec 2014 and Jan 11, 2015 explaining our position in detail to the secretary. Sadly till date we have not received any response from any of the club officials towards consideration of our plea. While it is the prerogative of the club within its rules to consider any such case, failure to respond to our letter and emails especially since I remain a life member ( as there is no confirmation of my being terminated as a member till date) amounts to negligence and deficiency of service. This also amounts to unfair and restrictive practices disrespecting individual member rights and privileges. For the record we have no pending dues to the club and all our dues have been paid fully till date.
We are agreeable to pay some token amount as penalty and receive the balance amount fully refunded back to us. The club has been advertising for new members in local papers and hence we feel that withholding our fees is unfair and is a restrictive practice.
