IRCTC – on-line Ticket Booking failed but amount debited

An attempt for booking ticket through IRCTC site was made on 1/1/14 for journey from NDLS to BCT. During booking payment of Rs 14848/- was also debited to my account but while processing at IRCTC end the transaction failed and the session logged out. Since the ticket was to be booked login was again done and after login booked history was checked but there was no entry of the failed ticket at that moment. Therefore, the ticket was again booked and this time the booking was successful. Later on it was noticed that 2 mails were received from IRCTC, one of the failed transaction and the other of success transaction. In both the cases ticket have been booked. IRCTC was approached through mail and phone explaining the case and request was made to refund the amount for the failed transaction but they have refused saying that the reservation has been sought for Premium train for which no refund is admissible.

Loss of Rs. 18848/-. We have explained to IRCTC that since the transaction had failed during ticket booking which occasionally happens on their website, another attempt was made to book the ticket else who would book two tickets for the same journey for same persons twice and spend such huge amount. It is a genuine case and hence refund requested.

Refund of Rs. 14848/- (failed ticket amount against PNR No.2454693697)
