Sub: Non Payment of insurance claim by United India Insurance Co. Limited

Sir,
My father Late Lt. Col. (Retd.) Harjit Singh Ghumman had purchased insurance policy for his Maruti Zen Diesel Car bearing registration no. PB08AP 0927 from United India Insurance Company Limited (UIICL), Branch office D.O – II, Lajpat Nagar Market, Jalandhar, vide cover note no. LDRO/2007 B 955617 on 07/04/2007. The premium of Rs8133/- was paid.

This policy was in continuation with previous policies of the same company from 07/04/2005. During this period no claim was taken. Therefore 20% no claim bonus was also given.

The said car met with an accident in the month of August 2007 and same was intimated to the insurance company. A surveyor was deputed to access the loss by UIICL. The car was taken to M/S Raga Motors, GT Road, Jalandhar for repairs. The cost of repairs was Rs25000/- plus taxes. The bills were presented to UIICL for claim.

The UIICL approved the claim for approx. Rs8000/- which was not acceptable as the damage was much more than what the actual damage. I requested the insurance company to reassess the claim.

Despite my numerous visits and phone calls to the manager, the United India Insurance Company Limited has not paid the claim.

This is deficiency of service on the part of United India Insurance Company Limited. You are requested to look into the matter.
