I have a question regarding service tax charged in restaurants. I have been to this Anjappar Chettinad restaurant in Bangalore and found that they charge service tax. Calculation is correct but there was no SERVICE TAX NUMBER provided in the invoice/bill we received. They just have TIN (VAT). On questioning they told it is not required and told us to go and complain to anyone. We checked another bill from another restaurant and found TIN& Service tax number clearly mentioned in the bill. I sent few queries regarding this to excise department but never got any reply from them could you please clarify and help me regarding the same? Or is the restaurant fooling Govt and customers? I would like whatever service taxes charged to go to the Government and also since they do not mention it in the bill we cannot take reciprocal benefit when we are levying the same.
