Airtel prepaid to postpaid conversion: no service for more than 24 hours

Hello, I am using an Airtel prepaid mobile for past 7 years. I now wanted to change it to postpaid. there was a stall set up near my office to assist in conversion to postpaid and to give new postpaid connections. I was told by the executive there that it would take a maximum of 4 hours after the verification process is completed. He said, when my prepaid sim is deactivated, i have to start using the newly given postpaid sim which will be activated in a maximum duration of 4 hours. on 02/01/2014 at 3 pm my prepaid is deactivated. and i havent got my postpaid working untill now. I have called the customer care on 02/01/2014 at around 10 pm and they said it will be activated by midnight and when checked on the morning of 03/01/2014, its still not activated. I have called the customer care again and they said it will take another 24 hours and which is not sure. I asked them if i can stop the conversion process and re-activate my prepaid sim, they said nothing can be done and i have to visit the airtel showroom. When I asked to the same person who gave me a new sim, he tried to do something but he is not able to solve the issue. I dont have a mobile for the past 24+ hours and many transactions are pending because of this. and i dont have any confirmation from Airtel yet about the possible date of resolution. i have to borrow a friends phone to talk to my family every day. this is very annoying and an inconvenience of the highest order. I cant access my bank accounts because i dont get the OTP on my phone. Airtel has to give an explanation for this and also be holding responsibility for this. Kindly help.
