Indian Railway TDR – Non-Refund of Ticket Train Cancellation

I had booked a ticket on IRCTC as per below details: 1. Login ID – bhaskisonu 2. PNR – 2151599807 3. Train Number and Name – 12204 / Saharsa Garib Rath 2. Date of Booking – 11 October 2013 3. Date of Journey – 27 November 2013 4. Amount Charged – Rs. 962.47 + Payment Gateway charges The above train got cancelled before starting from the source station. I tried to file TDR for the ticket when around 2 weeks had passed. To my surprise I saw that the said transaction booking history was not available in my ID. I contacted customer care and got a reply that “you had to file for cancellation only within 72 hrs of scheduled departure of the train in order to be considered for refund.” My concern is that I am allowed to file for TDR for a regular ticket on which I did not travel even 1 week after the scheduled departure date. But, when the Train itself gets cancelled, the time allowed is only 72 Hrs!!! Shouldn’t all the tickets for that train for that date be automatically cancelled and the amount refunded? Why should the customer pay when the Train itself did not start its running? Please help me get the refund for the ticket for this train which got cancelled. The excuse that I did not come in 72 hrs with a cancellation request is a very illogical one.

The train got cancelled without any prior notice. The passenger had to face a lot of problems due to this. When I tried to get the refund amount for this ticket due to the trains cancellation, the IRCTC people said that I did not come within 72 hours of scheduled departure to claim the refund and so I have to pay for a ticket for which the train itself got cancelled!!! What logic is this?

I want the amount refunded which I spent on my ticket.
