Loss of Baggage and Worst treatment by Spicejet

This is Bhushan Sathe from Pune, India. I travelled from Pune to Chennai on Spicejet flight No. 219 alongwith 3 of my other friends. We all checked in the baggage at the same time on Pune airport and had Baggage check-in tags attached to Ticket of Seat No. 22A in the name of Sunil Deshpande.

When we reached Chennai airport, we came to know that my baggage was lost by Spicejet somewhere in Transit, thought 3 of my other friends received their baggage. We tried to follow up this matter with the Officer on duty but didnt receive any satisfactory answer. The duty officer their got the “Baggage Irregulatiry Report” filled.

The entire details are as follows :
PNR : G2SSDA (PNQ to MAA)
Flight : 219
Date : 9 July 2010 Depart 11.40p Arrive 01.10A
Boarding time at Pune Airport : 11:00 P
Seat Numbers : 22A, 22B, 22C, 22D
Baggage Sequence Numbers ; 27, 28, 29, 30 (All baggage tage are attached to Seq. 27)

Immadiately after arriving Chennai Airport we had our flight to COLOMBO (Air India Express) for which Check in started at 4AM. So we could not spend much time there following up this matter.

I came to know that Spicejet had called at my Home address saying that I will receive the compensation of Rs. 2650/- for loss of baggage.

THIS AMOUNT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO ME since the cost of baggage lost was much much more than this and I do not want to incur loss due to negligence by spicejet. After arriving back to India I followed up with Spicejet, but they are still adamant on the same amount of compensation i.e. Rs. 2650/-

Here is the list and approximate cost of the items.

1) 3 Jeans Trousers @1150 each : Rs. 3450/-
2) 2 Trousers @ Rs. 900 each : Rs. 1800/-
3) 4 Shirts @ Rs. 850/- each : Rs. 3400/-
4) 5 T-SHirts @ Rs. 500/- each : Rs. 2000/-
5) 2 Memory cards of 4GB @Rs. 950 each : Rs. 1900/-
6) Mobile Charges : Rs. 450/-
7) Rechargeable battery charger : Rs. 3000/-
8) Miscellanwous items : Rs. 2000/-
9) Bag Cost : Rs. 3750/-
10) An Umbrella : Rs. 250/-

Total Cost of baggage lost : 22000/-.

It is a matter of negligence and carelessness towards customers that Spicejet is offering a small amount of Rs. 2650/- to me thought I lost much more than this. I do not accept whatever spicejet has offered me and whatever Spicejet policies may be.

I have suffered a great mental tension, agony and harrassment due to such event. I literally in Srilanka with just a sack in my hand and purchased few essential clothes, T-shirts etc. there. I was i no mood to enjoy the tour. Spicejet is completely liable for this. I am also forced now to ask for compensation for mental agony and harrasment caused due to this over and above my baggage loss.

Regards
Bhushan Sathe
