SBI – Non Acceptance of Demand Draft – Review

As my daughter has been admitted into Bachelor of Engineering program in Computer Science and Engineering in CBIT, Hyderabad, under the NRI category, annual tuition fee must be paid in US $. The fee is $ 5000 per annum. I have been paying every year in US $. This year also I paid in US $ through a Demand Draft taken in SBI, Koti, Hyderabad. Bank Manager refused to take DD for US $ 5000 and instead shown me a letter issued by their overseas branch which states “NOT to accept cheques”. However, my payable instrument being “Demand Draft”, which is a prepaid one I said this case is different. After about three weeks or so, Asst Manager of the Bank agreed to take the draft and a challan was issued to me, that is receipt for the draft taken from me. Recently he called me and said that their Overseas Branch is NOT accepting the draft and asked me to take it back. I insisted that they should present the draft to the issuer bank and the amount can get credited in to the college account.

Rs. 1000000 (Rupees One million) as compensation as any damage to my health cannot be measured in terms of any amount of money. This amount which I mentioned is only a token amount so that the bank in future would NOT dare to repeat such mistakes.
