Oriental Insurance MediAssist Claim Denied

Patient (mother)Mrs Chatterjee has been hospitalized since last 10 days and Cashless Benefit has been denied on the basis of Pre-Existing Disease. This has been decided by the medical faculty of MediAssist as my mother (Aged 62 years) had cancer in the year 1993. Despite multiple reports and clearance from Doctors sent, the TPA denies the benefit. Currently she is undergoing treatment for Pleural Effusion caused due to a lung infection and has been operated to drain out the water and the infection.

The financial burden is now more than 3 lakhs paid through Credit Cards which will need to be paid back in the next payment cycle. We are two daughters who have been struggling during this period as my father is also aged. Continuous followups have not only left us drained out emotionally but also raised concerns in the patient’s mind who is thinking that she has been denied cashless benefit due to Cancer and she thinks that the same has been hidden from her. This has caused a lot of stress for the patient as well as the family. The attending Physician is also frustrated with the situation as he is unable to understand the basis on which the benefit has been denied by the TPA. Due to constant to and fro the attending Physician, we are feeling highly embarrassed as Other Patients’ family members are also sharing similar concerns and are being sympathetic.

We want the TPA to be dealt with strictly as we may not be the only people suffering. Also, we want them to immediately provide us authorization for Cashless Benefit. We would also like to them to pay for the harassment caused to us due to their misbehavior and non responsiveness. They should also pay for the stress caused to the patient and the family despite being provided with timely reports and clearance from the doctor. Due to the initial delays on their part, my mother’s Surgery was on hold and I had to pay on my credit card to get the surgery started.
